Hitachi to double US production of small and medium-sized power transformers

- Hitachi Energy announced a $528-million new manufacturing facility in Gallman, Mississippi, to more than double U.S. production capacity for small and medium-sized power transformers.
- The facility will produce transformers in the 10 MVA to 160 MVA range for voltages up to 230 kV, with a size more than double the current Crystal Springs facility.
- This is Hitachi Energy's largest single U.S. investment, bringing its total manufacturing expansion commitment in the country to about $1.5 billion, with additional expansions in Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Tennessee.
- Production is planned to begin in 2029, aiming to alleviate industry-wide supply constraints amidst rising demand from data centers, manufacturing, and electrification.
- Once completed, transformer production will transition from the Crystal Springs facility to the new Gallman plant to improve long-term supply and customer responsiveness.
