Using Blu-ray M-Disk as Backup of Last Resort
a day ago
- The author proposes a decentralized backup system using Blu-ray M-Discs stored in sealed cases given to trusted friends.
- Core data includes digitized documents, music collection, photo library, and essential files for a digital life reboot.
- The chosen case is a B&W Outdoor Case Type 500, padded with non-degrading PE foam and sealed with tamper-evident plastic seals.
- Custom labels are designed and printed, and the backup is refreshed every 1-3 years with a handover ceremony to check seal integrity.
- The system is named 'Holocron', inspired by Star Wars, as a fitting term for optical storage of valuable information.
