AWS now supports spend limits
- Spend limits are project-level budgets that cap monthly costs and pause resources when reached.
- The minimum spend limit is the greater of $20 or a conservative estimate based on usage history.
- Notifications are sent at 50%, 75%, and 90% of the limit, or when on track to exceed within 10 days.
- Optional early cost controls include stopping new resource creation, pausing idle resources, and pausing top cost drivers.
- When a spend limit is hit, the project is paused; data is preserved for 90 days before permanent deletion.
- Only project owners can manage spend limits, and a Paid Plan is required to create them.
