- Airbus is launching a new flight-test campaign to evaluate high-span wings for next-generation single-aisle aircraft under the Wing of Tomorrow programme.
- Full-scale wing extensions will be installed on an A321neo and tested over three years to assess wing performance and handling in real flight conditions.
- The wing extensions, each several metres long, replicate a folding wing in extended position and are equipped with comprehensive testing equipment.
- The programme aims to create longer, lighter, and more slender wings to improve aerodynamic efficiency and reduce fuel burn.
- The Wing of Tomorrow programme has received £227 million in funding from the UK's Aerospace Technology Institute since 2014.
