House passes bill to make Daylight Saving Time permanent

The US House voted to pass the Sunshine Protection Act to make Daylight Saving Time permanent year-round.
The bill now goes to the Senate for approval before potential presidential signature, though its chances are unclear.
Proponents argue it eliminates clock changes, reducing sleep disruption, seasonal depression, and economic costs.
Opponents cite economic and health concerns, especially for farmers facing later sunrises and students commuting in darkness.
President Trump supported the bill, calling clock changes costly and unnecessary, while states have varying readiness to adopt it.
The issue lacks clear partisan lines, with public opinion divided on preferring permanent standard time vs. Daylight Saving Time.
Past attempts, like in 1974, were reversed due to unpopularity, but lawmakers continue revisiting the idea.
