- Graphic design solves communication problems, while software engineering addresses information problems.
- Algodeck is a physical deck of 54 cards designed to make computer science and mathematics accessible through bold illustrations and concise descriptions.
- The project blends coding and graphic design, using code to create illustrations and enforce a consistent design system across all cards.
- Design systems and constraints, such as grids and variables, were key to maintaining uniformity and scalability in the card designs.
- The visual language features a red-and-blue duotone, referencing binary systems, Bauhaus, and classic educational materials.
- Algodeck promotes non-linear learning, encouraging exploration and curiosity rather than following a traditional textbook approach.
- Although AI tools like LLMs exist, Algodeck emphasizes hands-on, screen-free learning through physical interaction with the cards.
- The deck serves as both a learning tool and a problem-solving kit, helping users develop new skills and mental models.
