- Blue Earth Bathymetry 2.0 improves upon version 1.0 by merging GEBCO with BathDNN25, a new dataset from SWOT satellite altimetry processed with deep neural networks, revealing 56,000 previously unknown seamounts.
- The hybrid dataset combines GEBCO's high-resolution multi-beam sonar data (covering 28% of the ocean) with BathDNN25's artifact-free satellite altimetry, aiming to maximize detail while minimizing visual noise for general-purpose mapmaking.
- Data processing involved downsampling GEBCO to match BathDNN25 resolution, graphical compositing in Photoshop with layer masks, and manual edits, especially in the Arctic using IBCAO data due to BathDNN25's absence north of 81°.
