- Artemis II launched on April 1 with four astronauts traveling toward the Moon, marking the first human mission beyond low Earth orbit since Apollo 17 in 1972.
- The Orion capsule named Integrity broke multiple records, including farthest human distance from Earth and first woman, first person of color, and first Canadian near the Moon.
- Artemis II is a shakedown flight testing crew systems in deep space, with a free-return trajectory around the Moon and a planned splashdown on April 10.
- The 54-year gap in lunar missions stemmed from Cold War political shifts, focus on the Space Shuttle, and canceled programs; renewed interest is driven by Chinese lunar ambitions.
- NASA approved flying Artemis II with the existing heat shield despite unexpected erosion in Artemis I, with some engineers uneasy about the decision.
- The film Project Hail Mary, based on Andy Weir's novel, is a critically acclaimed science fiction story about a teacher saving Earth from a dimming Sun, emphasizing rigorous science.
- The story features real physics like artificial gravity via acceleration, time dilation, and plausible alien design, while acknowledging fictional elements like extreme heat resistance.
- This week uniquely combines real lunar exploration with a scientifically grounded space film, highlighting the influence of fiction on real-world space interest.
