The US Army Is Burning Through Its AI Tokens

The Department of Defense boasted high AI adoption, but the Army's Combat Capabilities Development Command (DEVCOM) quickly exhausted its token allocation, forcing re-established limits.
The Army uses Ask Sage, a multimodal generative AI platform, but burned through a year's worth of tokens in just one month due to high usage.
Employees were encouraged to use AI heavily, with automatic token top-ups, leading to widespread token depletion across the department.
Other organizations like Meta and Uber have also faced similar issues of excessive token usage after promoting unlimited AI access.
An Army employee reported that the generative AI tools are often unreliable and not particularly useful for their work, warning against thoughtless implementation.
